… I am giving up on Steelers, PSU, NFL, professional, college sports
It has been a long time coming, but I am officially ending my sports blog and following of professional and college sports.
This will give me an opportunity to realign my blogs based upon interests, and will place the posts that have been very popular with foreign people — for some unknown reason — back on blogspot.
Officially, I have been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan for more than 68 years and a Penn State fan since I entered there in 1967, more than 50 years ago.
Now, I realize that my interest and patience with professional and college sports has worn so thin that there are more important things to talk about in my life.
Realigning the blogs
The new blog that I started last year will continue along the lines that I have been using: Features about people, families, communities, education, local history, and similar topics. I started this on my website and it has taken a while to catch on, but it is starting to do rather well.
The numbers are still not up to what I had on my blogspot one that has been frozen by Google, but I am also going to start transferring stories from that blog to my new one. I will repost some of the most popular and searched articles that I have written over the years.
The sports blog will still have stories about local sports and other areas of interest such as high school athletics and athletes. We are not ending those, but will forget about the ones about the pros and colleges, which have lost their academic way.
How they will play
However, the “Still Crazy After All These Years” will now become the major focus for my political and social commentary, the more controversial topics. That will isolate them from the new blog, which is much more positive, though still containing important issues in education and health care.
The Community of Matthew will continue to use topics of a religious nature. And the writing one that I have not used much will become more visible.
The blogs are a good outlet for me, but because I have returned to working, albeit part-time, about 20+ hours a week, I do not have as much time as I previous did to ruminate through the news and write about issues that I have seen.
What has been very gratifying is the response to the articles about people and families and students from my past. I am continuing those, but they take a little more time than the normal post.
A number are in the planning stages right now, and I am looking forward to them.
I will continue to link to the blogs on social media: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
