Penn State is again one of the “Top Producers of Fulbright U.S. Scholars and Students, 2021-22”

… one of world’s most distinguished scholarships

The Fulbright U.S. Scholars program was initiated by Sen. J. William Fulbright in 1946 as a means of encouraging international educational achievement.

Penn State University has seen at least one scholar recognized with such a scholarship for the past ten years. In the 2021-22 school year, Penn State featured eight students who received the prestigious recognition.

“We are proud of the high-quality, high-impact work of our Fulbright scholars, Fulbrighters create global connections with institutions around the world and bring their knowledge and experiences back to enrich Penn State.”

Roger Brindley, vice provost

Penn State was the leader in the number of scholarships two years ago.

What is the Fulbright program?

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar and Fulbright U.S. Student Programs are sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to support academic exchanges between the United States and over 150 countries around the world. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching and research grants for college faculty and administrators, as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars, and others.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants to college graduates, graduate students, and early-career professionals for individually designed study or research programs and English teaching assistantships abroad.

Almost 600 U.S. colleges actively participate in the Fulbright Program.
